Mouth Piece (2021) by Jasmine Best

Athens, GA

May 15 – July 24, 2024

Jasmine Best (she/her) is a mixed media artist joining us from Athens, Georgia. Her use of fibers and various media are a reference to the domestic spheres of the Southern United States and serve as a vehicle to explore the folk story tradition, and how it reflects, or metamorphosizes, modern Black culture. She treats this folk tradition with a feminist lens to further gauge its gendered influence.

Best obtained her BFA in New Media and Design from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and is currently an MFA candidate at the University of Georgia. She has participated in an array of both solo and group exhibitions since 2018, and has held resident positions at Olive’s Porch, Grow Residency, Stay at Home Residency, Elsewhere Residency, and Dear Artists, Artist with Anxiety Residency.
