Inside the Studio with Ellen Mansfield (3/23)

Join us at the James Castle House for Inside the Studio, an intimate studio visit with Spring 2024 Resident Ellen Mansfield. Dig deep into Mansfield's creative practice, see the work she's created while on-site, and learn more about her experience at the James Castle House.

Ellen Mansfield (she/her) is a multidisciplinary artist currently residing in Frederick, Maryland. Through drawing, painting, batik, ceramics, and other media, she channels her experience as a Deaf individual to explore themes of Deaf history and life in her work. This includes creating in the style of DE’VIA (Deaf View/Image Art) to celebrate and promote American Sign Language and Deaf culture.

Mansfield holds a BFA degree from the School of Visual Arts in New York City, as well as training from Moravian Pottery Tileworks in Doylestown, Pennsylvania. She has been featured in over 60 solo and group exhibitions since 2005, including a 2018 solo feature at the Dyer Art Center in New York, and a virtual group exhibition with the US Consulate General in 2022.
