Join us at the James Castle House for Inside the Studio, an intimate studio visit with Short Stay Resident Jay Stern. Dig deep into Stern's creative practice, see the work he's created while on-site, and learn more about his experience at the James Castle House.
Jay Stern (he/him) is a painter originally from Columbus, Ohio who now resides in coastal Maine. Using a brushstroke application that results in refracted works, Stern strives to depict and elevate domestic interiors and exteriors with a portrait-like approach.?Amidst the fractured layers of Stern’s abstract paintings lies a greater metaphor, revealing physical attributes in these personal portraits.
Stern graduated from the University of Cincinnati – College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning with his BFA in painting, and went on to get his MFA in Arts Leadership at Seattle University. He has two upcoming exhibitions cross-country, at the Grant Wahlquist Gallery in Portland, Maine, and NOON Project in Los Angeles, California. Additionally, he has exhibited both in solo and group shows across the United States.?More information: jaystern.com
